Our Mission

Montanans for Housing is a statewide coalition advancing innovative, common-sense policies that ensure every Montanan has access to a safe, affordable home.

Abundant and Affordable Housing

We need all types of housing, and much more of it, to ensure Montanans are empowered to buy homes on their own. We believe all Montanans deserve the benefit’s of stable, affordable and accessible housing.

We envision Montana communities building not just more single-family homes, but also more compact and centrally located apartment, condominium, and cottage-style dwellings – the kind of housing that serves all life stages, from young families needing more space to seniors needing to downsize

Stronger Financial Support for Deeper Levels of Affordability

We recognize that increasing the supply of available housing alone will not serve all Montanans, particularly those households which earn below the area median income. We need tools to encourage the development of housing that is deeply and permanently affordable.

Continued statewide initiatives should incentivize the development of more permanently affordable homes while continuing to increase housing production overall.

“We need tools to encourage the development of housing that is deeply and permanently affordable.”

Our Vision

We want diverse and abundant housing and small-scale business opportunities in all Montana communities. No one city or neighborhood should shoulder all the burden of housing our growing population. Every city should be able to grow and adapt to its needs.

Social connection, human health, and affordability are all improved by prioritizing interconnected and walkable cities that are rich in services and amenities.

Smart housing policy and development also protects the open space that make Montana a special place to live. Reducing urban sprawl encourages the preservation of wildlands for agriculture, recreation, hunting, and fishing.
